A journal of boating history and boats in contemporary culture, from the Curator of Watercraft

A cedar and mahogany dinghy from the Grandy Boat Co in Seattle. These small lapstrake boats were shipped with yachts from the company which was once located on Lake Union, just about underneath the Aurora Bridge. Grandy made many yachts designed by Seattle designer Ed Monk. This boat probably dates from the 1920s or ’30s.

It belongs to CWB, which provided it to Charlie Schuck for a fashion shoot at his studio in Capitol Hill this past weekend. I set up the deal and supervised the delivery and use of the object. I can’t share the images from the shoot, yet, but I can at least show you how pretty the boat is.

To see the results of the project, watch your local magazine stand in September for something that looks like this.
